The Ballon D'or shortlist has been released, and Lionel Messi's name has been left off for the first time since 2009. The Argentine forward has won the Ballon D'or award seven times, explaining why no other club has won more Ballon D'or awards than Barcelona. The Catalans have four more Ballon D'or awards than Real Madrid. However, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only two clubs in Europe's top five to have received more than ten Ballon D'or awards. Aside from Barcelona and Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich are the only two clubs to have won more than five Ballon D'or awards.
