What Lord Lugard said about the colonization of Nigeria by Britain

When Lord Lugard was made governor general of Nigeria, he made a statement before he started the official colonization of Nigeria. That statement was all about the reason why Britain was colonizing Nigeria. According to lord Lugard, he said that Nigeria should not expect the British government to colonize them for free. He claimed that the British government would not waste their resources on Nigeria without benefiting from it.

To him, Nigeria's relationship with Britain was all about mutual interest, this meant that Britain would still take back from Nigeria all the resources that they invested but when Nnamdi Azikiwe became president, he spoke on the colonialisation of Nigeria. According to Azikiwe, what Britain did to Nigeria was nothing to write home about. He said that Britain went beyond expectations as it exploited Nigeria. He said that the resources Britain stole from Nigeria was greater than the resources which they invested. He spoke of what Britain did with confidence as he totally discriminated the British exploitation of Nigeria.
